BFO Toronto is a community of people who have been brought together by loss and love. Many people choose to volunteer within BFO Toronto because it provides an opportunity to connect with others who understand life-changing loss and it is a beautiful way to honour a loved one.

Volunteer Facilitators

Peer-led support groups are at the heart of BFO Toronto and we are always looking for volunteer facilitators. Volunteers receive 30 hours of training in peer support, group facilitation and bereavement and grief theory. After completing the training, volunteer facilitators provide peer-to-peer support delivery with compassion and understanding to those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. In some cases, they will also meet one-to-one with BFO Toronto clients to provide initial support.

Volunteer facilitators receive ongoing support and opportunities for professional development from BFO Toronto staff and advisors.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

If you want to get involved in another way, the BFO Toronto community has other volunteer opportunities. For example:

  • Administration in our Toronto office

Volunteers who are able to commit at least three hours per week can help us with some of the office administration that happens behind the scenes.

  • Volunteering at BFO Toronto Events

BFO Toronto holds at least three events each year where we honour our loved ones and fundraise to support the work of BFO Toronto. Volunteers are essential to the smooth running of these events.

  • Joining a Committee

BFO Toronto has committees with volunteers who support our two staff members with areas such as communications, program design and fundraising.
