The 27th Annual Trees of Light Ceremony was held on December 12, 2018 in the Toronto City Hall Rotunda where we came together as a community to remember and celebrate our loved ones.
We began the evening with our Program Coordinator, Noah Zavitz speaking about the marginalized individuals that often don’t get recognized by the community at large. It was a very moving and important addition to our night.
The program included music from Eithne Heffernan our wonderful harpist who has attended all but one ceremony! Eithne graced us with her beautiful voice this year, what a treat that was. Shout Sister Choir was also in attendance, their 5th year participating and lending their voices to our evening. A big thank you to them all.
This year we had members of our community speak about their loss but also about what their experience with BFO-Toronto has meant to them, our thanks to Judy, Kelly, Ryan and Shawn for sharing their stories.
The trees were lit, not by children this year, but by a family who come every year to remember the loss of a son, a husband and son-in-law. Thank you to Laurie and her family for taking part in the ceremony.
We would also like to thank Heather and the Mount Pleasant Group for their continued support for the Trees of Light – many aren’t aware that we store our trees and supplies for the event at their facility and every year they deliver the trees to us and pick them up for storage as well. We so appreciate this.
On behalf of BFO-Toronto I would like to thank all of you for your generosity, without your support we could not continue to provide our services.free of charge to those who need them.
We look forward to seeing you in December of 2019.
